FIFA launches ticketing app for World Cup attendees

FIFA has launched a new ticketing application for fans attending the World Cup in Qatar.

The new app will allow fans to access tickets easily and edit personal information. Arguably the most important aspect is the ability to change guests of ticket-holders through the app.

In a press conference earlier this week, FIFA’s World Cup chief operating officer Colin Smith said: “For those fans who have bought the tickets, you will receive an email this week with information on how to download the ticketing app and therefore how to access your mobile tickets.”

Fans attending the World Cup in Qatar next month will require a Hayya card to enter the country and the tournament’s stadiums, along with a match ticket.

Recently, organisers changed the rules surrounding fans without tickets entering Qatar during the World Cup. Through the Hayya and Me scheme, fans with tickets are able to nominate three other travellers to be allowed to enter the country. This means that ticket-holders can attend the World Cup with their friends and family, even if they don’t have a match ticket.

Fans will also be able to enjoy live match screenings at FIFA fan festivals.

During the same conference, FIFA president Gianni Infantino revealed that almost three million tickets had been sold for the World Cup.

A further 30,000 rooms have been made available as Qatar expects 1.2 million visitors during the World Cup.

The World Cup is set to begin on November 20 and will run until December 18.
