AWS outage affects Ticketmaster and Adele pre-sale

An outage for Amazon Web Services (AWS) on Tuesday resulted in issues for Ticketmaster, and also a delay in the pre-sale for artist Adele’s (pictured) new Las Vegas residency.

Music and entertainment fans were unable to purchase concert tickets from the ticketing platform as it uses AWS, a global on-demand cloud computing platform and application programming interface (API) provider.

Fans who have been waiting five years for the return of Adele, who released her album ’30’ last month, were left frustrated after they were unable to purchase tickets for the singer’s Las Vegas residency – ‘Weekends With Adele’.

Ticketmaster ‘Verified Fans’ means that supporters can have pre-sale access to tickets for top artists, with many already queuing to purchase tickets for the Adele residency without realising it had been delayed.

Tickets for the run of shows had been due to go on sale 10am PST on Tuesday, but the outage resulted in a delay until yesterday (Wednesday). Originally, the ticket pre-sale had been pushed back until 2pm, but the outage persisted.

Ticketmaster released a statement on Twitter, which said: “Due to an Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage impacting companies globally, the Adele Verified Presales scheduled for today have been moved to tomorrow to ensure a better experience. Fans will receive an email with updated info on their new presale time.”

Adele’s residency at the Colosseum of Las Vegas at Caesars Palace starts on 21 January and will run until 16 April, with both Friday and Saturday night sets.
