English rugby league team Wigan Warriors recently celebrated a milestone with its season ticket sales reaching a five-year high.
Following the announcement, the Warriors beat Wakefield Trinity 60-0 on Friday in the club’s first home game of the 2023 Super League season. Attendees were able to enjoy the Fan Village and a live music performance before the match kicked off at the DW Stadium (pictured).
Head coach Matt Peet said: “Without our fans, we’re lost and we learnt that over COVID and last year we highlighted how much energy we can get in that stadium with some brilliant nights.
“Our players love it, and I’ve said before I think that’s the reason some of them decided to extend their contracts and in turn the fans renewing their season tickets. I really want us to put our best foot forward this season for our friends, families and for one another, because our fans deserve a team to be proud of.”
Chief executive Kris Radlinski added: “We’re delighted at the number of season tickets we’ve sold ahead of the upcoming 2023 Super League season, and we can’t wait to see you all at the DW this year. Wigan fans and the community surrounding us have always been an integral part of what makes our club so special, both on and off the field.
“The atmosphere that supporters create inside the stadium on a matchday is something that I know for a fact helps push the lads even further on the pitch.”
Earlier this year, fellow rugby league club Huddersfield Giants also celebrated a season ticket high, with over 3,500 sold.
