Sydney could welcome three more permanent outdoor live music venues

Sydney could soon boast a further three permanent outdoor live music venues, according to a proposal outlined by events and tourism precinct operator and service provider, Cedar Mill Group.

The proposal was outlined with the support of Business Sydney and Business Western Sydney.

The three permanent venues would be located at The Domain in Sydney, The Crescent in Parramatta Park and Thompsons Creek Regional Parkland in Bradfield.

The design for the stages have taken influence from shells, and it is hoped that the spaces would attract 1.1 million attendees annually.

The proposal opened with: “Greater Sydney’s live performance sector has been struggling, with performance venues closing at an unprecedented rate, deterring international acts and limiting home-grown talent. Greater Sydney’s growing appetite for outdoor entertainment and cultural events cannot be met with temporary venues that are costly, disrupt public access and are unable to endure extreme weather events.

“Permanent performance shells in Sydney’s parklands are an opportunity to revitalise live entertainment and deliver wider cultural, social and economic benefits across Greater Sydney, Despite a growing outdoor event and festivals sector making use of public parklands, Greater Sydney still lacks a permanent home for such events, in stark contrast to many cities throughout the world.”

It is also predicted that 2,362 permanent jobs would be created, with A$453m (£255m/$306m/€288m) generated in economic impact across the greater Sydney area and A$104m spent in additional out-of-venue spending each year. It is also hoped that over 217,000 tourists would be attracted annually.
