Denmark and Sweden continue compensation for cancelled live events

The Governments of Sweden and Denmark have announced they will continue to offer financial compensation to organisers and businesses that have suffered due to the cancellation of live events thanks to COVID-19.

During a press conference, Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson announced that further cancellation compensation would be available to event organisers, if it is needed.

Event compensation currently amounts to 70% of direct costs that are necessary for the running of the event, up to a maximum of SEK17.5m (£1.4m/€1.7m/$1.9m).

This money is available to events that would have taken place between June this year and March next year.

In February, Danish Minister for Culture Joy Morgensen proposed an extension of the original compensation scheme in Denmark, which was put in place March 2020. The European Commission also helped to fund this scheme, with DKK 91m (€12m) to compensate for the cancellation of large events due to the pandemic.

A further €13m was approved to help organisers of cancelled live events in August this year. The Governments of Sweden and Denmark have announced they will continue to offer financial compensation to organisers and businesses that have suffered due to the cancellation of live events thanks to COVID-19.
