Madonna has been forced to postpone her upcoming ‘Celebration’ tour after the singer was hospitalised with a “serious bacterial infection”.
The singer’s long-time manager Guy Oseary revealed on his Instagram that Madonna had recently developed “a serious bacterial infection which led to a several-day stay in the ICU”.
He added: “Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected. At this time, we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour.
“We will share more details with you soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows.”
The ‘Celebration’ tour was announced earlier this year and was set to begin in Vancouver, Canada on July 15, before heading to 34 other cities globally.
Produced by Live Nation, further stops in North America included Detroit, Chicago, New York, Miami, Los Angeles and more before heading over to Europe for 11 shows. The tour was set to finish at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome on December 1.
Some 600,000 tickets were sold, with sold-out shows in Toronto, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, London, Paris and more. An extra 23 dates were added across North America and Europe because of demand.
Madonna previously cancelled shows on her ‘Madame X’ tour for health reasons in 2019.
