Quarter of a million flock to honour Van Gogh in London

More than 250,000 art and culture fans have descended on London to visit the Van Gogh Alive exhibition since it arrived in the English capital in June.

Van Gogh Alive is an immersive multi-sensory experience and has already wowed eight million visitors across 75 cities around the world.

It is based on the life and works of the Dutch post-impressionist painter Vincent Van Gogh.

Ticketmaster UK signed the exclusive ticketing partnership with Van Gogh Alive in April earlier this year, and found that the event was a consistent top seller throughout this summer.

Ticket holders came from across the UK including Truro in Cornwall and even as far as the Shetland Islands in the North West of Scotland.

Marketing director for Van Gogh Alive Suzi Arkley said: “We are delighted with the success of Van Gogh Alive in London. Our partnership with Ticketmaster played a pivotal role in helping us to attract so many visitors from right across the UK and deliver an exceptional fan experience on and off site.”

The four-month exhibition was held at Kensington Gardens and ran from June 4 until September 26. It has also been held in Birmingham and is now currently on display at The Piazza in Salford Quays, Greater Manchester until January next year.

There were timed-entry slots at half-hour intervals each day, with fans filling the thousands of time slots across the exhibition’s run. Combined with hands-free digital ticketing and on-site QR codes to drive sales through online channels, it resulted in a safe environment for ticket holders.

Managing director of Ticketmaster UK, Andrew Parsons, added: “We are very proud to have played a part in making this a must-see exhibition of the summer, and it was a great opportunity to put our timed entry technology through its paces.

“The exhibition itself is truly spectacular and we wish the team every success with the remaining dates up in Manchester.”
