People on the move: UK Theatre, Logitix and more…

We round up the latest movements from the ticketing sector and associated industries…

UK Theatre, a theatre and performing arts membership organisation, has announced that it has appointed joint presidents for the first time in its history.

Stephanie Sirr and Jon Gilchrist will be joint presidents for a three-year term, and currently serve as the president and interim vice-president, respectively. This is due to current UK Theatre president Fiona Allan stepping down, as she is leaving the Birmingham Hippodrome for a new role at Opera Australia.

Sirr automatically assumed the role of president as she was already vice-president and Gilchrist became interim vice-president. The pair will become joint presidents from the 2022 annual general meeting (AGM).

Sirr has been chief executive of Nottingham Playhouse since 2001 while Gilchrist is the executive director of HOME, a multi-arts venue in Manchester.

In a joint statement, Gilchrist and Sirr said: “We are delighted to be taking up the roles of joint presidents in order to continue the work of recent years to deliver an organisation that really supports our industry in its time of greatest need.

“There is a significant amount of work to be done to continue to move the sector forward and as joint presidents we will be better able to deliver this alongside also running venues.

“In addition, as joint presidents we underline the commitment of UK Theatre to job sharing and improving the industry’s flexibility as employers. Finally, because the interests of both producing and presenting houses will be fully represented by us, we believe that at this critical time our combined approach will assist the sector in its recovery from the pandemic.

“A shared leadership will enable us to focus on a wider range of priorities, and to better reflect the needs of the membership. We are also committed to building a UK Theatre board that is more reflective of all areas of the industry. Over our term we look forward to working with the team at UK Theatre to build on the constitutional changes in place to diversify the board and positions of power.”

Colombian ticketing company Tuboleta has brought in Sofia Higuera (pictured left) as part of the general management team.

Higuera will hold the responsibility of maintaining the company and developing new strategies, focusing on digital transformation and exploring new business opportunities. She said: “My goal is to keep Tuboleta as the benchmark in the ticketing industry and accelerate its technological transformation process with the aim of innovating and facing what the digital world means today.”

The announcement follows the announcement that Hernando Sánchez Gil was leaving the management of the company after 21 with Tuboleta.

“Keep the stage lights shining, the customers smiling, and the gold dust shimmering.

Sports and leisure system and application developer Sports Fusion has also announced a reshuffle.

Robert Spalton has been promoted to the newly created role of managing director from December 1, with Molly Haskins becoming director of operations. Andrew Flakey has joined Sports Fusion as director of development from ticketing specialist consultancy Holistix.

Co-founders of Sports Fusion Chris Thomas and Jeremy Kerner said: “We are absolutely delighted to have developed our own top class talent and it’s of how good Rob and Molly are, that we have been able to attract Andrew, on of the very best people in sports technology generally and ticketing in particular.”
