AFL chiefs have revealed a series of ticket promotions as they seek to attract a bumper crowd to the Adelaide Oval for this weekend’s 2022 NAB AFL Women’s Grand Final.
Tickets for the biggest event in Australian women’s team sports, which will be played between Adelaide Crows and Melbourne this Saturday (April 9), are capped at $10, with free entry for under-18s. Free entry to the 53,500-capacity arena is also being provided to competing AFLW Club Members and community football participants.
Men’s AFL matches have been moved to avoid clashing with the women’s final, with the AFL saying this would “ensure clean air and no crossover of matches for the biggest game of the women’s season”.
Tickets became available via Ticketek earlier today (April 4) with eligible competing club AFLW members able to redeem their free tickets via a pre-sale, before general public tickets went on sale.
Gillon McLachlan, the AFL chief executive, said: “After a competitive Premiership Season and great Finals Series, the 2022 NAB AFL Women’s Competition has been the best season to date and we look forward to the biggest game of the season being played at Adelaide Oval.
“We are calling on the whole Australian Football community in South Australia to come and see our two best performing teams compete for the Premiership, in what will be a fantastic contest.
“We thank all the fans who have turned out to support AFLW this season.”
Nicole Livingstone, AFL general manager of women’s football, said: “With tickets to the NAB AFLW Grand Final on sale from Monday afternoon, we encourage all football fans to head to Adelaide Oval to watch an exciting contest between the Adelaide Crows and Melbourne.”
The AFLW, which began in 2017, welcomed its one millionth spectator earlier this season.
The competition is reckoned to be the most popular women’s sports event in Australia, with an average gate of around 6,500 in 2019. However, the seven games in the first round of this season’s competition attracted 20,151 at an average of less than 3,000.
A crowd of 6,436 watched Melbourne beat Brisbane in the first-ever AFLW match to be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground over the weekend.
