Sluggish ticket sales for inaugural LIV Golf event

The Saudi-Arabian funded LIV Golf’s first Invitational teed off yesterday in Centurion Club, near London, but its ticket sales have been somewhat slow, according to reports.

According to a report from the BBC, ticket sales have been slow and that players such as Lee Westwood had been advertising promotional codes for free tickets across social media.

The Telegraph also reported slow sales for the debut event, with organisers capping attendance at 8,000 fans a day.

US golfers and multiple major winners Phil Mickelson and Dustin Johnson drew the biggest crowds on the opening day.

Tickets for the LIV Golf Invitational Series were launched in late April, with premium packages for the full schedule costing £9,000 ($11,000/€10,600). Prices for the first seven events start at £67 for a single day pass and run up to £179 for a three-day pass. Single-day hospitality packages are available from £247.57.

A further seven dates in North America and Asia will follow the inaugural London event. LIV Golf appointed QuintEvents as its ticketing and hospitality partner in early April.

The first day of the invitational was dampened by the PGA Tour announcing it had suspended the 17 members taking part in LIV Golf events.

TheTicketingBusiness reached out to LIV Golf for comment on ticket sales but did not hear back prior to publication.
