Ramses and Pharaohs Gold Exhibition sells 8,000 tickets


The ‘Ramses and Pharaohs Gold Exhibition’ at De Young Museum (pictured) in San Fransisco has sold 8,000 tickets upon its inauguration, according to Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism. 

It is the second museum to host the exhibition after the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences. 

Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities Mustafa al-Waziry said that all aspects of the exhibition had been transferred safely. He also said that the exhibition had attracted a significant number of guests since it first opened. 

The exhibition highlights 181 artefacts from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square, Cairo and other artefacts from the Egyptian mission in al-Bobasteen space in Saqqara. Saqqara is an Egyptian village that contains several burial grounds dedicated to Egyptian royalty. There are a number if pyramids and tombs in Saqqara, which is located just under 20 miles away from Cairo. 

The exhibition has a focus on the period of King Ramses II.

It also includes footage that will inform guests on the historical past of King Ramses II and the battles he fought in, with a particular focus on the Battle of Kadesh.

The opening of the exhibition was attended by Egyptologist and former Minister of Antiquities Zahi Hawass, along with delegates from archaeology, egyptology, business, public figures and politicians. 

The exhibition will then head to Europe, with its first stop being Paris.
