UK Music launches Workforce Diversity Survey

UK Music, a British umbrella organisation for the music industry, has launched a new survey to boost diversity and inclusion across the UK’s music sector.

The UK Music Workforce Diversity Survey, which will be led by UK Music’s Diversity Taskforce, will focus on those that work behind the scenes in the industry, as opposed to those on stage.

The survey will aim to collate data from across the music business, including studios, management agencies, music publishers, major and independent record labels, as well as music licensing companies and the live music sector.

UK Music’s survey was originally launched in 2016 and the findings offer the music industry, the UK Government and other stakeholders an insight into where improvements are required.

It can also highlight where positive changes surrounding diversity and inclusion are already happening across the music sector.

The survey is introduced every two years, and UK Music is set to publish the results later this year as part of a report.

UK Music chief executive Jamie Njoku-Goodwin told TheTicketingBusiness.com: “It’s vital that we track the diversity of those that work behind the scenes in our industry.

“We need this data so we can identify where we are doing well, and where we could improve.

“We only get quality information if enough people fill out the survey – so I urge everyone who cares about diversity and inclusion in our industry to take part and encourage your work colleagues to as well.”

UK Music Diversity Taskforce Chair Ammo Talwar said: “We cannot shy away from the backdrop of change needed in the music industry around diversity and inclusion.

“The Music Workforce Diversity Survey is the leading light around collection of data and actions that are accountable and measured yearly. We urge you to become part of the solution and fill in the survey – your voice counts.”
